Microsoft to extend Windows XP (again)"Microsoft will now make Windows XP Home available for what it calls ultra-low-cost PCs (ULPCs) until June 30, 2010 or one year after the release of the next version of Windows; whichever is later. Microsoft goes on to state that it "Heard from partners and customers that they want Windows broadly available for this new class of devices, because they want the familiarity, compatibility and support only available on the Windows platform." This has appeared several places on the Internet, from several different sources. What interests me about this is the "ultra-low-cost PCs". These are very interesting because I am sure these low cost PC's (Notebooks) will be popular to those of you that use your computers for basic email and playing a few games. They are very basic, but will do more than you might think. It looks like they are going to be priced from some where around $199 and up. I am gathering as much information about them that I can find and will reveal what I find in future newsletters. If any of you have information about them and would be willing to share it, please email me with the info.
Go Wireless
We all know that printers, scanners, the mouse and other hardware that is attached to our computers will not last forever. So when you replace them why not go with wireless devices. I don't know about you, but I have so many wires running from my computer, that it is difficult to tell what belongs to what. Check with your local computer store to find out what is available. We recently bought a wireless keyboard and mouse for Bobbi's computer at Walmart for a good price. Check it out, I think you will be surprised how resonable some of the printers, etc are.

Resizing with Microsoft PaintAll versions of Microsoft Windows comes with a Paint program. This is a very useful program if you know how to use it. Here is one thing that you can do with it. I have said in the past that when sending photos in an email, that they should be resized smaller in order to send them. You will find the Paint program under Accessories on your All Program Menu. Here is how to resize a photo in Paint. With the program open, click on File at the top and select Open. Find the photo that you want to resize. Now click on Image at the top and select Resize. Now reduce the percentage for Horizontal and Verticle by 50% and click OK. You have now reduced the photo size by 50%, if you want to choose another size, just change the percentage the same for Horizontal and Verticle.
QUESTION: When using Wordpad, how can I keep the text from running off the right edge of the screen?
ANSWER: On the View menu, click Options.
Under Word wrap, click the option you want.
Note:
The word wrapping options only affect how text appears on your screen, not how the document looks when you print it.
