Windows Vista TipYou may have noticed that when you right click on the Recycle Bin, you will see a "Delete" option as well as "Empty Recycle Bin". If you click the Delete option the Recycle Bin icon will disappear, trust me on this (he he). If this happens to you, here is how to get the icon back.To restore it you can go Start->Control Panel->Appearance and Personalization->Personalization and then click "change desktop icons" from the left-hand column. From there just check Recycle Bin and click OK.
A Windows Vista headsupWe replaced our desktop computers a few days ago and the new computers came with Windows Vista Premium. Over all we are pleased with the computers, but for those of you that have not changed over to Windows Vista yet, you need to be aware that many of the functions are very slow. We have noticed that with each new Windows operating system, some things are slower than the system before it. This might be because many of the problems with Windows is that we are to fast for it. If you stop to think about it, with the new broadband services, we are able to move through our projects much faster. However I think in some cases the operating system is not able to keep up and we end up with more than one thing at a time trying to perform it's function. We have found by allowing each step to complete before we ask for another, that things seem to go much smoother. Just something to think about, if any of you have any tips for Windows Vista, let us know so we can share them with the rest. There are lots of new features in Windows Vista and we will be telling you about them in future newsletter's.
Manage Your Computer Security Settings (Windows XP)This is another one of those area's where it is good to know where things on your computer are located. I have run into lots of people that are just plain afraid to look through their computer to see where things are located. Please don't let this get in your way of learning more about your computer. Many have told me that they only use their computer to get email and play a few games. That certainly is their right, I mean after all it is their computer, but boy are they missing out on one of the most rewarding things there is and that is taking advantage of the knowledge that can be obtained with a computer. Here is a web site that will make you familar with the security center located on your computer. Check it out, you don't have to change anything, just look around. Security Settings
Microsoft Excel TipIn Microsoft Excel, I think most people go to File and Save when saving their work. There is another way that I think is a little quicker. Just click the Floppy Disk icon that appears in the upper left of the page when you want to save your work.
Arrange windows on your desktopIf you have more than one window open and they have been minimized to the task bar, you can display them side by side. You can display any two windows side by side on the desktop by first clicking a window's button on the Taskbar. Next, press and hold the Ctrl key and right-click the second window that you want to open, then click "Tile Vertically". This works great when you want to view two Microsoft Word or Microsoft Internet Explorer windows at the same time
Possible Signs of a VirusThese can be signs of a virus, but some of them can also be hardware or software problems. If you have these symptoms then run an antivirus program first before you check into the other possible problems. You can find two free Antivirus programs listed in the right column of this newsletter.
