Network Cable

Last week I mentioned buying your own Ethernet cable for use in Hotels and Motels, subscriber Jim reminded me that to make sure you do not get a Ethernet crossover cable. They are not the same as a Network Ethernet cable. If you explain to a sales person what you are using it for, they will lead you to the right one.

    Make your own Greeting Cards

I have mentioned before that Bobbi makes and sells Greeting Cards, thousands of them each year. She also makes cards for friends and family and gets a great deal of satisfaction from making each one personal by making many of them from scratch. What I mean by scratch is adding her own touch to each with family photos and text that comes from the heart.
You can do this also, first you will need a card program that allows you to import your own photos and graphics, most of them do. You can find inexpensive basic card programs at most any store that sells computers. One good source is Fry's Electronics, many times they sell card programs that have large rebates and I have even seen they free after rebates. The holidays are here and now is a good time to try making your own cards. Most of the programs are easy to use and most come with pre-made cards, just add the text that you want. I think you will find a lot of joy in doing this and your friends and relatives will love getting personalized cards. of course you will also have to have a color printer to do this. You will also need card stock type paper that you can get at Office Max, Office Depot, Staples, etc.

    Beware of Holiday Screen Savers

During the holiday season, it is always nice to put snowy screen savers on our computers or even screen savers that play a nice holiday song to keep us in a cheerful mood. Beware of free screen savers, many that come with adware, spyware and all sorts of nasty stuff that may be difficult to remove from computer later. If you are going to download any of these, check the web site carefully to make sure they are ad free. of course if the are willing to lie about it, there is not much you can do. I think I would stick with purchasing the screen saver from a well known chain store, ask them if the CD is ad free.

    Computer Term (Input Device)

A device you can use to enter commands or information into your computer, such as a keyboard, mouse, joystick, modem, scanner, or microphone.
