    Printing with Internet Explorer 7

Internet Explorer 7 has many new features, one of them that is very helpful is the ability to size a web page for printing. In the past when trying to print a web page, many times it would not fit on the paper. Most of the time you would have to print in the landscape mode. Internet Explorer 7 remedies this by resizing the text on the page to fit on the page you are printing. You can read about it and download Internet Explorer 7 for free here. Internet Explorer 7

    Free WiFi

No doubt you have heard about local governments, cities, etc, providing free Wifi in certain areas. This is something that you might want to check into, in your area, just to keep informed on what is going on. The Internet has become a major source of information that can save you time and money. You are able to shop online, find directions online, contact friends and relatives, even while sitting in a shopping mall.

Gas prices are very uncertain lately and if you can do pre-shopping online, it can save you a bunch of money, not having to drive every where looking for something. Bobbi and I carry one of our laptops with us most of the time and between it and the cell phone, we have been able to locate things we are shopping for without all the usual driving.

I would encourage you to contact your city or local government to see if free WiFi is available in your area. Also check with the shopping malls in your area as well. Here is a city that just recently started providing free WiFi to the public in an area where a lot of tourists visit. Look for things like this in your vicinity. Free WiFi, Temecula, Ca

What can you do with your computer

Knowing what you can do with your computer should be a priority. After all what is the since in having a machine that is not being used to it fullest. Microsoft has many web pages that can help with this, this is just one of them, www.microsoft.com/athome/default.mspx

    Digital Camera Tip

Have you every taken a blurred photo? Sure, most of us have. This can be caused by camera shake. Most of us when taking a picture while looking through the view finder, will hold our elbows out to the side, try holding your elbows in tight to your body, this will enable you to hold the camera more steady.

    Renaming multiple files

Here is a trick that I use when storing photo files on my computer. If you download photos from your digital camera, notice that they are all given a name automatically by the camera. Example: Picture 001.jpg, Picture 002.jpg, etc. After downloading these photos, you might reset your camera, the next time you take more photos, the camera may start all over again with Picture 001.jpg, etc. Since you can't store a file of the same name in the same place, you will have to rename one of them. here is a way to rename a bunch of them at the same time. Store the new photos in a different folder, after you have renamed them, you can transfer them all to the same folder. Follow these instructions,
  • Using the Windows Explorer, select all the files you want to rename
  • Press F2 or right click and select Rename
  • Enter the prefix for the name you want (e.g. Newname) This will automatically rename the rest of the files Newname (1).jpg, Newname (2).jpg etc.
  • Make sure you include the extension if you have the Explorer configured to show them, such as .jpg, .gif etc. If you are renaming lots of photos at the same time, it may take a while for the changes to take place.
