How to fix your own Printer

I found a web site that offers help on fixing your own printer. I wish I had known about this web site in the past, because I have thrown away several printers that I might have been able to repair. To find out more go here,  www.rverscomputerhelp.com/howto.html

Question about the WaveRV Antenna

I have a computer that has no WiFi card in it. Will the WaveRV antenna still allow me to connect to WiFi?

The answer is yes, the antenna has a built in WiFi card, no need to buy one separate. However if you do have a computer that has a WiFi card, you can choose to use which ever one you want. I have found that in many cases the antenna WiFi card works better than my built in antenna. To find out more about the WaveRV Antenna, go here www.rverscomputerhelp.com/waverv.html

What is Beta Software?

When someone writes computer software, be it Microsoft or others, they like to test the software to see if it has bugs or is ready to release to the public. Many times they will ask the public to test it, sometimes they select just a few who they want to do the testing. If you are testing software, the idea is to report any bugs that you encounter to the producer of the software. This way they can address the problem and hopefully eliminate the bug. We all know that this does not always find all the bugs, just look at past versions of Windows, lots of problems. Never the less, testing software is sometimes fun and interesting. Just keep in mind that you may encounter some problems that will affect the performance of your computer. Most of the time uninstalling the test program will solve any problems it might have caused.

Where is the Padlock???

We have told you in past newsletters that to make sure you are on a secure web site when ordering something or giving personal information. We also told you to look for the padlock in the lower right of your monitor, however if you are using Internet Explorer 7, the padlock location has been moved. You will now find it at the right side of the address window or bar at the top of the monitor. Microsoft figures it will be easier to locate at the top instead of the lower right. To find out more about the security that the padlock represents, click on it to read the certificate information.

Another Search Engine !!!!!!!!!!

Yip, it is called Clusty. It looks pretty much like all the other search engines, but does have a few different looks. I like to check all of them out when I find out about them, every once in awhile you will find a feature that is just right for you. You can see Clusty here,  www.clusty.com

Computer Term -OCR(Optical Character Recognition)

Software that can read handwritten or printed text. OCR software interprets the lines and squiggles on a page and converts them into characters. This provides a quick way to enter text into your computer. OCR software is commonly used with scanners. Using OCR software, you can scan a document onto your computer and change text, fill in blanks and print the changed documents.
