Let Acrobat Reader read for you

As most of you know, in order to read a PDF file, you need Adobe Acrobat Reader. What some of you might not know is you can have Acrobat Reader read it for you. Just follow these instructions. You must have Acrobat Reader 6.0 or later.
  • Open any PDF file that you want to read.
  • If you want Acrobat Reader to read the complete PDF file, press Ctrl + Shift + B and it will start to read the file.
  • If you want Acrobat Reader to read a selected page, click on the page you want to hear and press Ctrl + Shift + V. It will then read only the page you have selected.
  • To pause the reading, press Ctrl + Shift + C. To continue reading from a pause, press the same combination of keys again and it will start back up.
  • To stop the reading, press Ctrl + Shift + E.

    Fresh Cab

Every once in a while we will include something in the newsletter that doesn't really pertain to computers, but is a good tip to pass along to Rver's. I realize that many of you are not Rver's that subscribe to the newsletter, but this is a good tip for your home as well. This was sent in by subscribers Sandy and Jim.

It is a product that gets rid of mice in your RV or home and many other areas. I have ordered this, but have not tried it myself yet. The reports that I have read are good. You might want to check it out. Thanks Sandy and Jim. www.goodearthenterprises.com/index.html

    We are available

After our recent relocation, we are no longer tied to a job and are available to give computer classes at RV Parks, Mobile Home Parks, etc, in the Southern California area. To contact us, please use the email address at the bottom of this newsletter.

    Sorting those wires

We all struggle with the number of wires that we have to deal with on our computers. There are the printer wires, scanner wires, monitor wires, speaker wires, etc. If they would make them in different colors, that would sure help. So try this, buy several different colors of tape, put the colors at each end of the wires, that way you can easily trace where these wires go.

    Automatic Updates (Windows XP)

It is a real good idea to have automatic updates set to receive critical updates from Microsoft. However some times these updates start at an inconvenient time and can really slow down your computer. The good news is you have control over how and when you want these updates installed. Here is how,
  • Right click on the My Computer icon and select Properties.
  • Now select the Automatic Update tab
  • You will now see several options that allow you to choose the day, the time and three other choices.

    Use Google as a Dictionary

Next time you want to look up a definition of a word, try using Google. Just type in Define: followed by the word you would like the definition of. I think you will find some interesting information as well as the definition.

    Computer Term -Netiquette

Netiquette, or net etiquette, refers to etiquette on the Internet. Good netiquette involves respecting others' privacy and not doing anything online that will annoy or frustrate other people. Three areas where good netiquette is highly stressed are e-mail, online chat, and newsgroups. For example, people that spam other users with unwanted e-mails or flood them with messages have very bad netiquette.
