WinBubble for Windows Vista (Tip)

Last week I told you about WinBubble and I would like to add a tip or warning depending on how you look at it. Under the IE tab there is an option to Delete all History, I did it and most of you won't like the outcome. It deleted all of my passwords that IE had saved for me. It took me a while to put them all back. Now there are some that say you shouldn't let IE save your passwords in the first place, because they are stored on your computer and someone might be able to get them. As for me, I have never let that bother me and I like having them stored. It is your choice of course, just remember if you choose to click on Delete all History you will be deleting your passwords.

CCleaner

One of our newsletter subscribers alerted us to this neat program. It is called CCleaner, it is free and it does a good job of cleaning temp files from your computer, also keeping the registry clean. You can download it here .www.ccleaner.com

System Restore and viruses (Windows XP)

Sometimes a virus can get stuck in the System Restore files and can not be removed with your antivirus program. This would include Norton antivirus. The only way I know of to remove the virus is to delete the System Restore files and start over with new files.

Here is how to delete the System Restore files in Windows XP
If using the default Start Menu, click Start | Control Panel | Performance and Maintenance | System. Select the System Restore tab and check "Turn off System Restore".
If using the Classic Start Menu, click Start | Settings | Control Panel and double-click the System icon. Select the System Restore tab and check "Turn off System Restore". Restart your computer. You must understand that if you delete the System Restore files, you will not be able to use System Restore again until new files have been built up. After restarting your computer, go back in and remove the check mark from "Turn off System Restore". Next week I will tell you how to do this in Windows Vista.
