What to look for in a computer

Some of you have emailed wanting to know what to look for in a computer, (Laptop or Desktop). I usually respond with what speed processor to get or how much memory is good, etc. Well here is a web site that has explained what each element of a computer is and what each means. These are all terms that you will see listed on the computers that are available today. Take a look and then you will have the information you need before you go shopping for a computer. www.salescircular.com/tips/tipcompu.html

You have probably seen me refer you to this web site before to find out where the best deals are for computers and other electronics. As always I would like to point out that we do not have any relationship with this web site. We do not receive any money or anything else for sending you there, it's just that we think this is a very helpful web site and we use it often ourselves when shopping for where the best deals are. www.salescircular.com  Just choose your State and pick a category.

Making older programs run in Windows XP

A few weeks ago I explained how to use the Compatibility Wizard in Windows Vista. There has been a question on how to do this in Windows XP. Here are the directions,
  • Right click on the link of the program that you want to fix.
  • Click on Properties.
  • Click on the Compatibility tab.
  • Click on Run this program in compatibility mode and select one of these:
    Windows 95
    Windows 98
    Windows NT 4
    Windows 2000
  • Under Display settings, click to select the mode that you think that is necessary for the program to work correctly:
    Run in 256 colors.
    Run in 640 X 480 screen resolution.
    Disable visual themes.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
  • Double click on the program.

Increase or decrease text size on a web page

If you are on a web site that does not have a text size that fits your eye, you can change it. Here is how,
  • To increase or decrease your font size on a web page in Internet Explorer, select the Tools option from the top of your Explorer window and go to the Internet options.
  • Now go the General tab and click on the Accessibility button in the right lower of the dialog box.
  • Now change the status of checkbox marked "Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages" and then click Ok. Now to change the font size to what you want, select the View option at the top of the web page and go to Text size option to change it.

A quick way to use your printer

There are several ways to call up your printer, but here is a really fast way. First create a shortcut to your printer. Go to your Control panel, select Printer, right click on your printer and select Create Shortcut. A shortcut will be placed on the Desktop. Now when your want to print something, just drag it onto the shortcut icon, your printer will automatically come up and print the document.
