Windows Vista TipsEver since Windows Vista arrived, there have been numerous tips on how to make it run faster. I have put some of them on the web site and in the newsletter. Before I put them in I usually try them on my own computer first. There have been some that I have had to reverse because although they seemed to help, they also caused some area of the system to work worse than before. My goal of course was to get Windows Vista to run as fast as Windows XP. Apparently there is no way to make that happen. Of course there are ways to improve Vista's performance, they seem to be the same things that have always improved performance on any of the past Windows Versions. That is to add more memory and to get a faster processor. So in my opinion, if you you are looking to buy a new computer with Windows Vista on it, get the one that has the most memory and fastest processor that you can get. When I bought mine, it had 1GB of memory, I have since increased it to 2.5GB's. It has made a difference, it would have been cheaper to buy the computer with more memory in the first place. I did not upgrade the 2.00ghz processor because of the expense. Again if I had upgraded it before I bought the computer it would have been cheaper. So when you are shopping for a new computer, try and negotiate an upgrade if the one you are looking at does not come with enough. So in my opinion, I think a minimum of 2gb's of memory, a processor of not less than 2.00ghz(make sure it is Duel Core). Most computers these days come with a hard drive that has upwards of 80gb's, if not I would try to get that increased as well.
7 ZipI have had requests for an unzip program that is free, I have recommended several over the years. Here is another one that does a good job, it is 7 zip and you can download it here,
www.7-zip.org 7-Zip can create and unpack ZIP archives exactly like WinZip. You can read about it at this web site.
RV Survey (Update)We received so many responses to the RV Survey between May and now, that I had to update the Survey page again. I sure don't mind, it is interesting to see how the survey changes. I was surprised once again to see the percentage of Motorhome users to go up again by a little. You would think with fuel prices it might have gone the other way. The number of Fulltimers increased as well. You can take a look for yourself here,
