We are just winding down an RV trip and wanted to send you some comments, observations and info.
We joined a Good Sam Caraventure which started in Greeley Ontario (just below Ottawa) and went to the following Quebec cities/towns: Montreal, Quebec, Rimouski, Gaspe Peninsula, Perce; and in New Brunswick – Caraquet, Nigadoo, Moncton; then Prince Edward Island; then Nova Scotia – Debert (near Halifax), Cape Breton and then back home to NH. We had 20 RVs in the group including the Wagon Master (leader) and the Tail Gunner. The cost was $4,000.00 – about $1,000.00 too much when compared to similar trips put on by Camping World’s Presidents Club.
OK:
WiFi (internet) was available as follows:
Poplar Grove Campground in Greeley Ontario for $5 per day. Internet was available with a laptop modem at the pay phone. (Data port on pay phone using either an 800 number or credit card.
Alouette Campground in St Mathieu de Beloil Quebec (just outside Montreal); no WiFi but data port on pay phone available.
Quebec KOA (St Nicolas, Que) on the south side of the St Lawrence River from Quebec City; WiFi at $7 per day or an LAN connection in the office area for hi speed internet for free.
Rimouski Quebec campground (Camping de L’Anse) had free wifi.
Camping au Bord de la Mer, Cap Chat Quebec had no internet facilities.
Camping du Phare in Perce Quebec had no internet facilities.
Camping Hache in Nigadoo New Brunswick, free wifi.
Camping Wishing Star, Shediac New Brunswick (the best campground we had on the entire trip), free wifi.
Holiday Haven Campground, Cornwall, Prince Edward Island; data port on phone, no wifi offered.
Elm River Park, Debert Nova Scotia, WiFi at $2 per hour or $6 per day; dataport on phone.
Bra D’Or campground, Cape Breton Nova Scotia; free Wifi.
Gateway Parkland campground, Amherst Nova Scotia; no Internet.
Pleasant Hill campground, Bangor Maine, WiFi at $1 per day.
Walnut Grove campground, Alfred Maine, free WiFi.
Observations:
Of the 20 couples on the trip, all were Good Sam Members (of course; they had to be to go on the caravan) but 18 of them (including the Wagon Master and the Tail Gunner who were the “leaders”) had ever belonged to a Good Sam Chapter and most of them had never heard of one. Most had no idea what a Samboree was.
We met other caravans on the way who were going to most of the same places we were and they had paid $120 per day for their trip while we paid more like $166.00 per day.
The weather was cold, cold, cold for most of the 24 day trip.
Just some tidbits of information!
