This can be done in Outlook Express, Windows Mail and Incredimail.

(Outlook Express) While in the Inbox, click on Tools at the top of the page, select Options from the drop down menu. The Options window will open, select the Maintenance tab, under "Cleaning Up Messages", put a check mark next to "Empty messages from the Deleted Items folder on exit".

(Windows Mail) While in the Inbox, click on Tools at the top of the page, select Options from the drop down menu. The Options window will open, select the Advanced tab, then click on Maintenance at the bottom. put a check mark next to "Empty messages from the Deleted Items folder on exit".
