Backing up Files and Folders

Backing up files and folders is easy and something that should be done on a regular basis. Many think this is a big process that is difficult to understand and do, trust me it is not. All you have to do, is figure out what files and folders you want to backup and have something to transfer them to. This could be to a CD or DVD, I prefer to use Flash Drives. Pictures or photos are included in the files and folders.

Any programs that you have on your computer probably came with an installation CD, such as games, editing software, etc. These do not need to be backed up because you can reinstall them with the CD that came with them. Any programs that came originally on your computer, can be reinstalled by running your recovery disks that came with your computer. If you have programs that you downloaded from the Internet, make sure you know where you got them so you can go there and download them again, in case of a computer crash where you have to reinstall everything. Many programs that you buy from the Internet can be replaced, if you just explain to the source that you bought them from that you have had a computer crash. This is something that you should find out about at the time you purchase them so you will know later if need be.

Flash Drives these days are very inexpensive, I always advise people to check at www.salescircular.com, to find out the latest good deal. Just look under STORAGE, then USB Drives. In order to transfer files, folders, etc onto these flash drives, just drag and drop or use the Send To function to transfer them. To use the Send To function after plugging in the flash drive, just Right click on the file or folder title, choose Send To, then select the flash drive you want it to go to from the list. CD's and DVD's can be used the same way. However flash drives can hold more information and are more reliable. I would suggest getting a flash drive that will hold at least 8gb.
