Microsoft Guided Help
by Larry McLemore

Microsoft has many helpful web pages and programs to assist in using their products. One of these programs is the Guided Help program which gives step by step instructions on how to perform tasks that correct problems or show how to perform maintenance on your operating system. It is available on their Search the Support Knowledge Base pages and is a free download.

On one of the knowledge base pages, is a list of "How to's", most of them available with the Guided Help program. I will give you the link to this page further down in this article. When you arrive at this page you will see the list of things that can be done, the ones that use the Guided help program will have an icon like this next to it. When you choose one of these tutorials, it will take you to a page where there is text instructions on how to perform the task. Also down toward the center of the page you will see a place to download the Guided Help program for this task. Once you have the Tutorial on your computer and open it, you will be given the option to let the program run the task automatically or to show you step by step instructions on how to perform the task yourself. I would suggest you view the step by step part first, then if you would like, let the program run it's self. By viewing the step by step instructions, you will gain valuable information about your computer operating system. Much of the "How To's" may not be of interest to you now, but could be when you run into problems later. Some of the tutorials are to fix error messages that might appear on your screen, if you are not receiving these error messages, I would not run the tutorial. Some of the tutorials are for maintenance, these you might want to run. Here is the link to the page, Guided Help
