Laptop LCD Screen Replacement by Larry McLemore

If you have a laptop that is in good shape, but the LCD screen has been damaged or is just going bad, you might consider replacing the screen instead of buying a new laptop. This is something that you might be able to do yourself if there is a good tutorial available for your computer. You might also consider having a computer shop do it for you if you don't feel comfortable about attempting it. There are a bunch of places on the Internet that sell replacement LCD screens for laptops , just search for "Laptop LCD Screen Replacements" in a search engine and you will see what I mean. Of course you can also check with a local electronics chain store as well, most of them offer installation, if you need it.
The replacement LCD screens can run from about a third to half the cost of a new computer. If you have a good working computer and you replace just the LCD screen, then you don't have to go through the hassle of loading all your files and programs onto a new computer. The prices for replacement LCD screens seems to vary from merchant to merchant so be sure and check prices at several locations, also if you are going to have someone do the installation, inquire as to how long they will need your laptop. There is one other option that I should mention and that is using an external LCD monitor, this would be an option if you are no longer using your laptop as a portable device. Nice thing about doing it this way, is that you can use a much larger screen and the external LCD screens are less money. I have seen 17" LCD monitors for as little as $159.00, as far as that goes, you could get a 20" external LCD monitor for what you might pay for a replacement monitor for your laptop. Naturally if you still carry your laptop around with you this would not be an option. Also in order to use an external LCD monitor your laptop would have to have an external monitor port on it. I offer these suggestions as alternatives to buying a new laptop.
