There are many places to go reference computer memory. Here are a few provided by Google Search

One of the most asked questions is how much memory should I have? In todays world the bare minimum would be 256 MB, with 512Mb even better. Why stop there, many of the new desktops and laptops are coming with 1GB of memory. Do you really need this much ? Experts say that you will notice the biggest difference when upgrading from 256Mb to 512Mb. However we are also told that the new Vista OS that Microsoft is coming out with, will require more RAM than ever before. So from my point of view I would say the more RAM the better.
