Remember Daylight Savings time

Sunday March 14 is the day we here in the U.S. move our clocks forward one hour. Don't forget or you might be an hour early for church etc.

Add an additional clock to your computer

You can have more than one clock on your computer, lets say you have a relative in another part of the world and you would like to know the time there as well as where you are. Follow these instructions,

  • Right click the clock on your task bar, lower right of your monitor
  • Click Adjust Date/Time
  • The Date and Time box appears
  • Click the Additional Clocks tab
  • Click the Show this clock check box
  • Click the drop down menu under Select Time zone
  • Select the time zone you want
  • Enter a Display name
  • Click OK
  • An additional clock will appear when you click on the time. This will work on Windows Vista and Windows 7

Safety tips for using a Laptop

Here are a few things to consider when using a laptop. These are common sense tips, but they are to make you think more about laptop safety.
  • Do not leave your laptop in a hot vehicle it can do damage to it
  • Do not use your laptop in direct sunlight, there are light reducing covers that will help protect your screen.
  • Do not use or leave your laptop in extreme cold.
  • Watch the weather, if there is a storm in the area, shut your laptop down.
These are just a few common sense rules for using your laptop. If you would like a more detailed list of things not to do, use a search engine, such as Google and search for proper use of a laptop.

Speech Recognition in Windows 7 and Windows Vista

I am using a speech recognition program that came with Windows Seven and Windows Vista. You should give it a try, it is very easy to use and I think you would really enjoy it. You can start using the program by going to Start, Control Panel, Ease of Access and then Speech Recognition. It comes with a tutorial that explains exactly how it works, you can also train the program to listen to your voice but I've not trained it and its doing a pretty good job without that. I think you will be surprised on how easy it is to get the hang of it. You can use it to dictate an email, switch back and forth between programs, etc. There are additional tutorials that can be found on the Internet, but I bet you can figure most of it out just by experimenting with it. You can even delete entire sentences or just one word at a time.

    Inventory your Computer

I have told you about this program before, but every once in a while I get a question where this would be the answer for the problem. This free program is called Belarc Advisor and it will give you an inventory of everything that has to do with your computer. Recently a person was looking for a key code that had been issued for one of their programs. I recommended that they run Belarc Advisor to see if they could locate it. You can download it here, www.belarc.com/free_download.html This program is completely safe to use and is often listed as one of the best free programs around. Once you install and run this program I think you will be surprised at what you find on your computer that you forgot was there.

Export your Favorites or Bookmark file

If you would like to put your favorites or bookmark folder on your Desktop or a location of your choice, just follow these instructions. Once you have exported the folder you can also print it if you would like. If you would like you can even save it to a flash drive and then import it onto another computer.
  • Click File at the top of the page
  • Then click Import and Export
  • Check Export to a file, then click Next
  • Click the Favorites box and click Next
  • Click Next again
  • Now click Browse and click Desktop in the left column or another location of your choice and click Save
  • Click Export and Finish
