What file format should I use when scanning documents?

ANSWER:
When scanning a document you might be presented with several options to save the file in, here is a guide that will help.
  • PNG - The PNG format is good for images, especially those containing text or a high level of detail.
  • .JPG - JPEG is a good choice for digital photos and other colorful images.
  • .PDF - PDF files are the best choice for text documents, forms, or other images containing text. Some programs, like Adobe Acrobat, use OCR technology to scan the actual characters of the text so you can edit the text later and search for words or phrases in the document.

What is the difference between a USB hard drive and a USB flash drive?

ANSWER:
A USB hard drive is much like the internal hard drive that is in your computer except it usually comes in a protective case. The USB means that it can be connected to the computer using a USB port. A USB flash drive is solid state, meaning it does not have moving parts that can wear out, it also connects to the computer using a USB port. Also the USB hard drive comes in much larger capacities then a flash drive, that is however changing rapidly.

What is a lost cluster?

ANSWER:
This answer comes from Wikipedia. -------Also called a lost allocation unit, or a lost file fragment. A data fragment that does not belong to any file, according to the system's file management system, and, therefore, is not associated with a file name in the file allocation table. Lost clusters can result from files not being closed properly, from shutting down a computer without first closing an application or from ejecting a storage medium, such as a floppy disk, a flash drive. Some say that enough lost clusters can slow down a hard drive. One way to correct this is to run A program such as ChkDsk, a utility that comes with Microsoft Windows. It can be used to try to recover or remap bad clusters. YOu can read more about this at EHOW
