Wi-Fi for the Rver
by Larry McLemore
In order to better understand this article, it would be good to Read Here First.
At this time, it seems the two best ways for Rver's to connect to the Internet
is with Wi-Fi or Satellite. In this article we will discuss Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi has become like cell phone service in the sense
that everybody is offering their version of it. There are lots of different plans you can sign up for, unfortunatley
none of them offer everything that an Rver's needs. Example, you can subscribe to a service, but it might only cover
certain locations such as book stores, library's and coffee houses, which are not always easy for an Rver to access. Many
Hotels and Motels now offer wireless Internet, but again not very helpful to the Rver. Even banks,Bowling Alleys and fast food restaurants
are now making Wi-Fi available for their customers.
What does the future hold for the Rver who would like to
use this type of Internet connection. One company that is moving in that direction is Truckstop.net.
They now offer Wi-Fi in many truck stops and travel centers. Places where us Rver's can access pretty easily. They are also in
some of the Thousand Trails RV Parks. You can expect to see them in many more RV Parks real soon. Check back to this web site
often, I will be posting the new locations as I find out about them.
Boingo is another company that offers Wi-Fi now in some
RV Parks. They have just joined with Truckstop.net to make the company even stronger. Things are changing so fast and Wi-Fi locations
are popping up daily. For this reason, I do not recommend that you sign a long term commitment with any company. It would be a shame to
get caught in a contract, only to find that there is another plan somewhere that would serve you better. That is
one nice thing about Truckstop.net, is you don't have to sign a long term agreement. You can try it for a month or two, if it is not what you want, you can cancel it.
Something important to consider when we hear about Wi-Fi spots or (Hotspots), is if the signal they provide is encyrpted or not.
Just because they offer a service and you have what you need in your computer to receive Wi-Fi, it does not mean
you can get it. You would have to be signed up for their service.
There are many companys that will be providing Wi-Fi in the near future and I am sure they will be considering the RV industry.
